I'm in a shitty mood and Disney is a shitty company.
Disney is a shitty company but this is a remarkably shitty article. It reads like a parody. Lethal Weapon is highbrow? He really has to be trying and failing to be insulting and funny. He does sound like an elitist douche and I know those people. I am one. I just wouldn't take the time to use a successful boycott to criticize people's taste in movies. Except for the copyright thing, they're about as shitty as every other media company as far as I know.
Disney is a shitty company, for so many fucking reasons. But, and I'm gonna just throw this out there, I think we're looking at something that's part of a bigger problem and that's seeking favoritism from reviews in general. About a decade ago, some dude wrote a not awful but a not glowing review on some motorcycle helmets for some enthusiast magazine. The manufacturer threatened to pull their advertising from said magazine so to prevent that from happening, the magazine shit canned the reviewer. I read that through Jalopnik. Movie studios often trying to get reviews taken off of Youtube using DMCA complaints even when there's zero material from the films used in the reviews. Gamespot, like ten years back, pretty much lost all credibility when they wouldn't objectively review games from big studios. On and on this shit goes. My head's not with me tonight, but I think you get what I'm trying to say.
Some years ago IMDB allowed you to search for the lowest rated movies (not sure if that feature is still available). In the bottom place was the Disney film "Jonas Brothers 3D experience". If you read the reviews and filter for "Loved it"... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1229827/reviews?filter=love ...you find about 200 reviews with 10 stars, all placed in the space of 1 week in March 2009. They read exactly like they were written by college students who had never seen the film. It doesn't take too many smarts to realize that is certainly what Disney did: paid 200 college students to register on IMDB and write a 10 star review in an effort to get this movie from the last place. The movie still has a 2.1 rating.
