Found this juxtaposed with the term mono no aware:
- Mono no aware (物の哀れ), literally "the pathos of things", and also translated as "an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera", is a Japanese term for the awareness of impermanence (無常 mujō), or transience of things, and both a transient gentle sadness (or wistfulness) at their passing as well as a longer, deeper gentle sadness about this state being the reality of life.

If there's really 100,000 products on display, I could see myself spending at least a week there. This stuff is my crack cocaine.

I'm mostly curious in American household items that feel familiar but are bizarre- the toaster eggs thing is amazing to me, I wonder if there's some marketing angle that could have been made that would have made toaster eggs a mainstay staple. You also reminded me that I once had waffle batter in an aerosol can shipped up to Alaska because I thought it would be the coolest christmas gift in the world for my dad, and he was thoroughly unimpressed. So yeah, stuff like that.
