That checking website apparently uses a shared, free Cloudflare SSL certification so either they are even sloppier than I thought or someone is phishing.

I assume it was a phishing site. But it's not like it is hard to come up with my last name and Social Security Number, since the Feds lost it years ago.

The problem is not just that they might have your SSN, the problem is also that the US relies far too much on the unsecure method of ID that is the SSN. This was bound to happen sometime and I'm sure it will happen again. Hopefully it's a catalyst for you guys adopting more secure IDs, but I doubt it.
