Here are the rules for this little game: Say a few words about a band that you like, but that you think no one else here on hubski will have even heard of. Links to videos, if you can find any. If someone has heard of your selection, you're disqualified. The idea being just to give us all some exposure to relatively unknown music.
Here's mine. A few years ago, a friend of mine returned from a trip to her native South Africa, and she gave me a CD she bought there. It was "A Few Blinding Views" by a SA band called "Plush". They no longer record, because one of the members was killed in a traffic accident a few years back. Soulful, simple tunes by a group of young lads who seem to be in the throes of losing their faith - many of their songs deal with disillusionment with their church and society. good music. the video made me crave for a pizza.
Psychostick. They call their music style "humorcore", but it's "just" a mish mash of several metal styles. They band makes silly, sometimes non-sensical, music about whatever they like.
Case in point: This is not a song, it's a sandwich It's the first song I heard from them and it pretty much sets the tone for the rest of their songs :)
Psychedelic Baby! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znaclFvZcPc Good jam.
Is this the same group that did "White Bird" ? I've heard of them :-) Pretty sure I have a CD of theirs.
I've yet to meet anyone else who has heard of Acoustic Ladyland. Here's my favourite song of theirs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfgkFItEwiM
checking back to see if ya'll have chosen a book for the book club and I couldn't resist commenting on this. Great idea for a post! I once shared a show with a band from Ohio called Kaslo and I loved this song "Poop Face". Great tune, unfortunate title. I'd be very surprised if anyone had heard of them.
Thanks Mike, I appreciate it. I was excited about this band but it seems they've split and haven't made any more music. It's worth getting the one album they released.
Glad you dig it. Thanks for the excuse to listen to some Kaslo. I've not done so in too long.
I love this idea. Digital Antique is a local Austin band that needs more love. Wonderful cinematic/post-rock feel with three classical strings in addition to the standard rock setup. Most of the band work day jobs as music teachers, which makes me love them more for some reason.
I agree, this is a cool piece of music and the video is pretty awesome too.
This is a great piece of music, thanks for sharing. I also love the odd paths through the internet that these kinds of sharing can lead to - the title of this song led me here :

Astra Heights. A friend of mine did a music video for a film class years back for a group of guys that were starting up a band. They are one of those bands that I wish would find that way to break through, because I think a lot of their stuff is pretty great. A video example: http://youtu.be/scz1gRdY3cc Also really like this: http://www.myspace.com/astraheights/music/songs/the-march-28...
Nice one, kind of a Roxy Music vibe going on there.
I really like Trio Tekke. They do modern rebetiko, urban greek folk music.
Good stuff - here's a sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GohC_wTO5Q8

So many great links, thank you everyone. There's still a few I haven't had time to listen to yet, but I will. So far I've enjoyed them all. Here's a bit of randomness for you - the Rudy Schwartz Project's "Frank" (a tribute to Zappa) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W588_jzyi44
