My mom isn't one for fashion, decor or style of any kind. But like most people, she thinks she is. When I was growing up she would have periods that could be defined by animal type. She had a duck phase, a cow phase and a rather unfortunate era in which she thought "mammy," blackface art was adorable, and I think she had chicken phase. Now she's in to Jesus. But the cow phase was the longest lasting one. She loved her cow paintings and sculptures. So, so weird. She would love this post, back then.
My mom is similar, but rather than a cow phase, it was a rooster phase. I've noticed many of my friends' mothers also went through an intense, obscure farm animal phase. I wonder why it seems like so many mothers go through a phase like this. Also I'm curious to see if I wake up in 10 years with the urge do re-decorate the place with goats or something. Hmm.
Shoot, send it to her anyway. She'd probably still love it. When I was growing up, one of my neighbors was really into pigs and she collected all sorts of pig art. It wasn't your typical pop culture, cartoonish pink pig kind of art, but all sorts of folk art stuff of traditional pigs from statuettes to paintings and the like. Even as a little kid I could tell it was a really nice and tasteful collection.
