I guess we're not the "toothpaste school" anymore
Maybe the person who reported this is racist, maybe they didn't get a good look and thought it was better to safe than sorry. Everything afterword is fine. Security isn't about to say, "hold on a second, do you think that this might have been a glue gun?" or "hold on a second, they said that the armed man was black, do you think we should slow this thing down for a second and examine our hearts for institutional racism before we take a look for this guy?" Maybe the school is straight racist, maybe it isn't but neither case seems supported by the facts at hand.
Just for perspective: - we had gun racks - with guns in them - in the school parking lot - and nobody gave a fuck. Buddy of mine discovered that yes - if you throw a .22 rimfire just right, it will go off and he discovered it when another friend threw it at his feet outside of chemistry class. No lockdown, no Facebook panic, nothing. Knew a guy. Beat his girl. Girl broke up with him. brought a .45 to school and told his friends he was gonna kill her. Counselor got him into the office, principal got his backpack when he sat down, got the gun, kicked him outta school. Didn't even make the school paper. shit ain't new but the frickin' panic is off the chain.
Agreed. Panic over the fears that we create in our mind are far beyond the reality of the situation. This was a timely post for me. Last Friday, there was an email sent to me from my kids school district. They and the local P.D. were aware of a situation observed by a resident on my street. A car that pulled up to a bunch of junior high boys, waved a handgun as a threat and drove off. Thousands of people were warned immediately that, it turns out, a carload of boys waved a cologne bottle out of a car at another bunch of boys. I've lived in this neighborhood 14 years and the most serious crime I can confirm is a stolen girls bike. A bike that had been left at the end of a neighbor's driveway for several days. In addition, to that crap, I had to stop my 1st hour 8th grade math class to speak with our building liason officer. Officer Andy apologized as he stopped a lesson on the Pythagorean Theorem to have me analyze some sixth grader's handwriting. A note had been found on the floor of my 4th hour class yesterday with ten student names on it, several had been crossed out, and "Demolishe" written on top. Officer Andy had to follow up because a parent had been freaking out over the safety of her kid and the others. More crap made into something from irrational fear.
