The biggest problem with facebook is that it designed to keep things from "going viral". It was designed to make sure Harvard elites don't have to hang with myspace scum. Reddit on the other hand is designed to cross boundaries.
A personal example is my cartoon blog
beth aven
the only thing I have stats for. www.reddit.com 92%
www.google.com 2.4% direct searches
belfrycomics.net 2% free listing took 5 minutes
hubski.com 1.8% nearly 100% of my feed back you guys rock.
www.thewebcomiclist.com .07% sporadic discussion on the board
www.last.fm .05% music friends
www.facebook.com .03 exactly the same effort I put into reddit. notice how facebook does not give a very good return.
FB also isn't a place where very selective folks hang out. Its mostly so you can see pictures from your neighbor's ex-girlfriend's cousin's night at the bar with all her best friends. Those discriminating types probably aren't going to put a lot of effort into reading comics and talking about them. Glad our modest group is the coolest!

Good point, But those bastards should at least take an interest.
FB is a social segragator by design not a place to make friends. Ones FB friends are mostly folks you already from other places that way folks who went to Brown don't comment on the discussions of their betters. Not judging them but by design it makes it crap for promoting stuff.
