Starbucks is an expensive way to drink coffee. I buy good organic coffee and the beans cost me about $15 every two weeks. So, at $30 per month, that's $360 per year. Not insignficant, but much cheaper (and tastier) than Starbucks.

The reason I find value in Starbucks is when I am in a hurry and need a good, reliable cup of coffee. This usually means mornings staying in a hotel in a new city. If I have time, I'd prefer to find a local coffee shop and check out the scene. In a pinch though, it's a good standby.
Like you, we buy good organic french roast, which is pretty darn tasty. Just enjoyed two cups and I'm all set for the day.

It is quite amazing how some people are addicted to Starbucks. I was staying at Shangri-la Shenzhen waiting on a taxi and I overheard a fellow American instruct the concierge to tell the cab driver to drive him to the local Starbucks, wait there for him to get his coffee, and then drive him back to the hotel.
I personally do not care for Starbucks. I will drink it when push comes to shove.

I have to say, when I am in China, I mainly rely on Starbucks. It's not easy to get a decent cup elsewhere. There was one other place... the name is failing me, but they are much less common than Starbucks. Of course, there are some local places, but they are hit or miss.
I swear that some places serve up Nescafe. :( Ah yes, it's Costa Coffee. They aren't half-bad.

I've actually been to those. One thing I like a lot about most coffee houses in China is that they are often full blown restaurants.

It might be weird, but I don't generally like that aspect. It kind of diminishes the cozy coffee house feel for me.
An exception for me is a place called the I-55 cafe in Dalian. It has good American fare that is hard to get elsewhere, and it has good coffee drinks too.

Not weird at all. Some folks like the small coffee house atmosphere. I like it because sometimes I can get carried away with work or a book and enjoy the convenience of enjoying a nice meal and then continue with what it is that I was doing without ever having go from here to there.

When I am in Chengdu, I enjoy my coffee @ 良木缘咖啡.
