- At a morning press conference in Olympia, Inslee announced that Washington "will not be a willing participant in mean-spirited policies that break up families and compromise our national security, and most importantly our community safety."
In this case Washington already does not allocate funds or encourage officers to do immigration enforcement (nor should any state really). Whats really happening here is a lot of political chest beating without any positive impact and possible negative consequences for local citizens. I want to call this out for what it is, this is Inslee and other politicians taking pot shots at Trump for personal gain. The laws aren't really changing Washington police dont do immigration enforcement anyway and have always been strongly discouraged from doing it. There are no consequences for Inslee here for taunting the Trump bear, but I could foresee future consequences for federal funds allocation for the state and its citizens. I could for example foresee increased immigration enforcement efforts in Wa State as a result of Inslees political chest beating. Ofcourse the people paying the price will be the small peons and not Inslee himself who will use that action to further his political clout.
Why should this be a game of who gets there first? To me, any coverage, and any resistance in this matter is worth celebrating.
Just seems like anything Inslee does is news now a days. They don't even mention that Oregon was doing this under Obama, wait, that's it! It's because it's anti Trump! Never mind that not cooperating with ICE was the moral thing to do the whole time and that this is now news because it's anti-trump. I get it, never mind, I don't know what I was thinking. Inslee should run for president or something.
1. This was an article published in The Stranger, which bills itself as 2. Good for Oregon, I truly, genuinely think that's great, but at the same time I think that some coverage is better than no coverage.Seattle's Only Newspaper
so of course the focus is going to be on events and politics in Washington and not Oregon. This isn't the New York Times.
