Every damn news website I go, there he is. I'm burned out. I'm tired. I swear to God, if I see an article about him on Motortrend I'm gonna pop.
Lord. Mercy. Please make it stop.
The dude literally threatened to invade Mexico. The dude literally threatened the President of Mexico with invasion. Look at the bright side. Tomorrow, about 5:30 pm EST, Jared Kushner is going to start observing the Shabbat. About ten minutes after that, Steve Bannon is going to do something batshit. And then things will continue until about 7 in the morning Sunday, at which point Jared Kushner will fire up his phone, see a few "who wore it better" memes on Twitter and try to claw things back to whatever passed for normalcy Friday afternoon. Hmm. I said something about "bright side". I guess what I meant is you've got about 36 hours before our next adventure.
I also heard he got into a tiff with Australia, insulted Iran, and accused Japan and Germany of manipulating the value of the American dollar. I didn't go out seeking this information, it all fell in my lap one way or another, through talking with friends or listening to NPR or even the evening news. That's all crazy if they're even remotely true. I mean, this is the first time I've failed uterly spectacularly of trying to be even remotely neutral about one of my government leaders and I honestly don't feel like it's my fault. Serious question. Is this what the Cold War felt like? It's only been a few months. How did people survive decades of this?
Cold War felt nothing like this. It was a bunch of diplomats on both sides being deadly serious, with neither side having much of a clue what the other side was up to. By way of comparison, we've now got a pretty obvious idea what everybody is up to, but our president is choosing to slag on Arnold Schwartzenegger during the National Prayer Breakfast. The Cold War was just that - cold. Skullduggery and silence. This is positively despotic.
Part of me thinks he's developed an addiction to negative attention. Another part of me thinks he might actually have Alzheimer's and is losing grip of his coherence and lucidity. Either way it's too irresistible for people to comment on from whatever stance.
Well, of course - he's president of the USA now. He's an important person whether we like it or not. You could have said the same about Obama while he was still president.
I would love to see actual numbers comparing articles referencing Trump and articles referencing Obama. I feel like I run across Trump so much more frequently. If I'm in the business section, there he is. Technology? Environment? The arts? Trump. Trump. Trump. In comparison, it seemed like I only saw Obama in politics and national news sections unless something big happens.
Probably because Obama is a reasonable, mature politician who was never surrounded with such cloud of dust because he never fucked up so badly. EDIT: Actually... I don't mean to sound like a smart-ass douche. I get it, man. I'm tired of that orange-in-change, too. I guess I'm not getting the brunt of it all, living outside of the US. While I was at home with chickenpox, my father was watching the TV constantly, him being out of job, and I listened to what they've been saying for at least the first two weeks, myself unable to do anything else. "Trump's been unreasonably attacked" was a defence I heard that stuck, but there were many more. His blasting of a journalist with "No, I'm not gonna answer to your question. You're fake news!" was talked about as heroic self-defence against the evil media... by a news reporter. Maybe you should leave it for a while. Have a breath of fresh air without the news. Do something you enjoy and spend time with people you love. Anger about something not about to change will bring nothing but chaos to your soul. Trump's the President, and it's definitely something you want to do something about, but for now... I say breathe. Bad things are happening. Good things are happening. Don't forget about those latter ones.
We are paying the price for all of this, and sadly this doesn't end. Hopefully people will begin to see how important politics are in our everyday lives. People like to shift the government into these large categories that don't illustrate how much the federal and state government matter in our everyday lives. The same way they say there are innumerable types of invisible waves passing through the air around us, for everything we do there is probably a piece of legislation tied to it in some way. I imagine no matter what you do, Trump's politics will find it's way into every form of media you enjoy.
I'm about ready to hole myself up in the house, cut off the internet and television, and read comics day in and day out in blissful ignorance.I imagine no matter what you do, Trump's politics will find it's way into every form of media you enjoy.
