I feel the same way towards RSS. I tried a few programs and Google Reader, but I never really enjoyed the experience. So, I trimmed my daily visits to a handful of sites. One of them is my favorite news aggregator: 3 Quarks Daily.

For RSS, I've been using FeedReader for a few years now, it's easy, pretty simple, and free. Didn't like Google Reader at all.

I used to run the FeedReader extension on Chrome, but I felt kinda bad about leaving all those blog posts and news unread. The number just kept growing and growing and I couldn't keep up. Eventually, I just unistalled it and instituted a daily rotation around a few websites.
I can't recall its name, but I used to have a program that ran at the top of the screen, showing you the latest headlines from your feeds. It was awful. I felt drowning under the information flood.

I only use it for a few feeds, like discussion/support groups for microprocessors I use, that sort of thing. And Hacker News, and a very few others. Too many feeds and it becomes a burden. But, it's really good for the sites that don't publish often.
