My goodness. I know this is annoying and a bit overbearing, but Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is one of my favorite novels. Give it a(nother) go. And report back!
will do! I remember really enjoying his sentences. I think what put me off at the time was that I was feeling saturated with comic book-referencing art, and I turned into a great big prejudiced snobface. I'll definitely give it another go, once I've finished my current read (Purity by Jonathan Franzen). :)
Have you read Freedom? That's the only Franzen I've read but loved it. Love Kavalier and Clay, trying to finally work through Yiddish Policeman's Union which I've started multiple times but haven't had real reading time to work on it.
