I'm following the story very closely. My grandparents and my cousin are there for the holidays. They are safe. That's where I spend a lot of summers when I was young. It's fucking crazy. 13 november in Paris, now this in Nice. (& other similar events in other countries). I don't see that kind of event ending anytime soon and I don't see any solutions to that happening. Makes me mad how powerless we are against that kind of violence.
At least 80 now... Hollande will speak in 10 minutes (3:30 am local time).
Fucking terrorists... Its damn near impossible to protect against them though im sure somewhere there is politician looking to ban trucks. I really do think that radical Islam has gotten a foothold in Europe and now will be near impossible to root out. Every one of these attacks sparks blow-back that eventually ends up radicalizing the local Muslim populations. The feedback loop is pretty strong and hard to break. I really have no idea what to do about shit like this. None of the effective strategies to fight radical Islam are really compatible with western values so what can you really do?
We installed dictators, which is the epitome of 'Western values' historically speaking. Cynical, but true. Watch us do it again really quick. I expect that Assad is going to stay. In the past we would have replaced him, but he has Russia's backing.None of the effective strategies to fight radical Islam are really compatible with western values so what can you really do?
Trying to remove Assad was a mistake, unless you take the cynical view that we were trying to destabilize europe and weaken the eurozone. In that case it was a stunning success. Besides were past the point where installing a new dictator in Syria will do much for the radical Islam problem in Europe. The question now is how do you fight radical and dangerous ideas (Islamic and otherwise)? Non western countries have faced this problem for 60+ years but the problem is new to western nations and is something we are poorly equipped to handle. The very nature of fighting Ideas is strange to us. I really don't know... Its a very complex and difficult problem
In this 21st century it is showing that any ideology is not scalable for long. I would say that strengthening our own borders and domestic policy - in effect deconstructing much of the global financial network that has run amok - will promote a new era in international trade. One that is not promoted on agreed upon ideas of valuation. When the age old premise of supply and demand resurfaces as the sole proprietor in dictating the ebb and flow of the actions of one state to another, we will no longer be so heavily subject to as radical ideologues as the equally scewed powers that be promoting an unsustainable system of governance. There is going to be a reset.
At what point do we become numb to these type of attacks? I can't even remember the names of all the different mass attacks this year...
