I'm looking for a place like Reddit but without the hoards of porn. Is this place porn free?
Everyone seems to be focusing on the second part of your question, and failing to address the first (implied) question... "... looking for a place like Reddit..." I probably would have used that short-hand as well when I first started here, but I have come to realize that Hubski is not "like Reddit" in the most important ways. People refrain from replying on Hubski, generally, if they don't have something to ADD to the conversation. An alternate viewpoint (like this post), or a further confirmation of an existing point made earlier, etc. So no, this place is not "like Reddit", in that people generally think before posting. People value their username on Hubski. I know a couple of the luminaries have a couple of different profiles they post with, but that's because of operational stuff; like posting Official Notices from an Official Hubski Boss account, or whatever, as opposed to their "normal" account. Unlike Reddit, Hubskiers value their name and stand behind their posts. They think before they post. So on the surface, and in a brief overview kind of way, yes Hubski is "like Reddit". But it is oh so much more than that.
Don't listen to these guys. People here are into some weird shit. Even Reddit folks don't know about most of it. Like, friendship and being sincere and caring about the content... If you're not into this sort of thing, you might want to keep looking. Otherwise, you're welcome to stay and enjoy the party. Anything you'd like to know about this place thusfar?
WHAT KIND OF HELL HOLE NIGHTMARE IS THIS PLACE?! Yes! What tends to be the political attitude here? I'm a Libertarian, I tend to disagree with both cry baby liberals and boot licking conservatives.
I love that. See I believe you learn more from people you don't agree with, but so many people mud sling instead of debating. Balanced modest contention is best. Reddit and Voat are far too extreme of either end.
Sometimes there's car porn from rd95 And poetry porn from lil or _refugee_ And music porn from thenewgreen and others And science porn from OftenBen And I drop some occasional architecture porn... But actually... That's not fair. None of its porn. It's the real deal. It actually satisfies and means something to the sharer and the sharee. Joking aside, While I can't say the place is porn free... I don't think I've seen anything pornographic. I think you'll find some cool people, a great community and some ideas that make percolate until they expand your mind. Welcome aboard!
and don't forget the tag #quotesporn that flagamuffin, me, and OftenBen often post. Actually it's been a while and I've come across some great quotes . . . Edit just checked. Quotesporn has 38 followers and a whack of posts. Oops, whack sounds kind of porny.
No porn. There are no shortage of websites for porn, Hubski is not one of them. Welcome!
Lol, that's my super hero alter ego after a friend told me I was his hero for helping him wall mount his TV because he couldn't figure out his stud finder. But I had only wall mounted one tv before so I said just call me Amateur man!
We don't block porn, but it hasn't been a problem yet. In the past, when people have posted artistic nudity, they've usually put "NSFW" in the title. We generally take the Classical Liberal (Libertarian) approach of not censoring anything, but allowing each user to block the tags and other users they want. So, if someone started posting porn, you could block them yourself. Generally. We reserve the right to censor. Freedom of the press is guaranteed only to those who own one, as it were. People also tend to add community tags as appropriate. So, if there started to be a porn community, it's likely everyone else would start community tagging with something like #nsfw, and you could block that tag. And Hubski is small enough, you could easily block every user in this hypothetical community, if a tag didn't arise. But no promises. That's what liberty means. ^_^
Yep. rob05c there was a brief time when we had a large influx and people were posting some grotesque porn. All images were changed to a cute baby goat leaping in the air. There are no shortage of sites for sharing porn, that's not why we started this place. That said, it does pose a grey line of what is or is not porn. I suppose it's up to the community to decide whether or not we are just in the interpretation. The fact that we've not had to make such decisions often, says a lot about the kick ass community we have. Is this scaleable? Nope. Should we have a larger community we will solely rely on the community to filter such things. I'm not anti-porn, I'm just anti porn on Hubski. Same way I'm anti car parts advertising. There's a place for that too, just not on Hubski.
I stand corrected. Meh. Freedom of the press is limited to those who own one. I'm not a fan of censorship, but there's very little practical argument that censoring pornography on a single website inhibits free discourse and ideas. It certainly makes our lives easier, not having to worry about the legal ramifications of illegal content.
As a Libertarian I love this. I would done this in both Reddit or Voat but neither of them have such a powertful interface. I love how cerebal everyone seems to be here.
Yay! I'm not a prude by any means, but I'm just sick of all the sex saturated stuff out there.
That's awesome! I'd like to hear a good response on why the X Men poster has far more attention than the woman being murdered for rejecting a marriage purposal.
> An xman poster is local. We might see it. Pakistan is far away and a brief google search of status of women in Pakistan will show that setting a woman on fire or murdering family members in "honour killings" is not particularly unusual. > We can protest the Xman poster and it will actually be taken down We can bring attention to injustice on the other side of this fragile planet. but our experience intervening in cultures we barely understand has been discouraging. > interesting that both cases are about violence against women. A person speaking up against images that seem to celebrate violence against women will be heard. There has been a movement since 1998 to raise the consciousness of men with regards to male violence against women. Our society is somewhat aware of its wrongness. There's a chance that if you set anyone on fire in North America, you will not be protected by tradition, custom, and gender inequality..We quickly took steps to remove those materials. We apologize for our actions and would never condone violence against women.
Very good arguement, but I'm curious why the same efforts aren't put towards the in my personal opinion greater evil. Could we not offer asylum to such women who wanted to break free of " culture "? Something else I'm curious of, my wife is a domestic voilence survivor and had a long hard road to recover from it. ( Father cutting and breaking bones of her, her sister, and her mother.) My father was also a wife beater, and to this day I'm very extreme anti voilence. Neither of us understand why the X-men poster is offensive. We both personally view it as people being for lack of a better word, crybabies. We both view it as one monster in a war killing the main character in war where he indiscriminately kills countless men, women, and children. I don't even see the character as a man, just a god, and Mystique as a soldier. In my mind, it's two powerful people fighting. Why do people consider this offensive and view it man vs women, yet things like 50 shades, and Twilight ( abusive etc ) are heralded? This bearing in mind consent, 50 shades lady consented BDSM, Twilight lady consented to stay with a douche, and Mystique consented to war, and to be killed by anyone or anything? Furthermore, why is there no outrage when it is a woman slapping, shooting, beating up, murdering, or torturing a man? I mean, in one of these X-Men movies Mystique and Wolverine really F each other up. This is not meant to be any degree of disrespectful I'm geniunely curious because I find it for one, not a case of man vs woman more god vs a soldier, and two there is so many equal examples of violence commited to the opposing genders by the other. I personally find it hypocritical that those who are for equality don't want examples of voilence against women by men, but the reverse is 100% acceptable where both genders can be viewed in a fantasy situation such as X-Men equally as capable of harming each other. I think there is much more problematic examples of women's abuse such as Twilight, strippers, etc in much more realistic settings that can impression young women that something truly awful is acceptable and normal. Like being in an abusive relationship, only being as good as the man in your life. Providing examples of what is normal is where stuff like this can be offensive, if a movie poster showed a normal man, choking his spouse then I'd understand the offense. But anything the poster in question demonstrates that no matter your gender you can die in war. Especially if you are both super powered monsters who bareky have a gender. Anyhoo, I really appreciate your first response and I hope you will consider giving me your prespective on this one. :)
There is a ton of people who spoke out against the types of relationships put forth in both of these novels and explained how they are either toxic or not representative of a healthy BDSM relationship. Why do people consider this offensive and view it man vs women, yet things like 50 shades, and Twilight ( abusive etc ) are heralded?
Edit I'm not the best person to weigh in on anything to do with popular culture, but others will - particularly if you create a post addressing that issue. I prefer to never see cinematic or TV celebrations of violence. Violence in the form of gaming is also a problem for me. To be terrorized by the very people who should love and protect us is traumatizing. I wish you both well.Could we not offer asylum to such women who wanted to break free of " culture "?
We do. They are allowed in as refugees, not always and not all the time, but they do get in. Sometimes family members follow them to Canada and murder them anyway. I'll try and get to more of your post later. It's 6:27 a.m. The sun is rising at 6:38 and I'm going to be there on the edge.Furthermore, why is there no outrage when it is a woman slapping, shooting, beating up, murdering, or torturing a man? I mean, in one of these X-Men movies Mystique and Wolverine really F each other up.
I imagine there is outrage somewhere in the chatterverse. There's no shortage of outrage.my wife is a domestic violence survivor and had a long hard road to recover from it.
I know a little about domestic violence and have posted a few stories about it here and here. Obviously nothing as serious as your wife survived.
Just a personal preference & it makes my wife & I uncomfortable. I'm all for freedom and libertarian it would just be nice to find a place where the focus is on content and discussion without porn being thrown in the mix. I like Voat but it had a serious pedo problem and let people just blast questionable smut all over the place.
Yea I looked at those they are nice and powerful. Already had someone block me for presenting a real counter arguement. Lol.
The filtering features are really awesome. I guess that if people start posting #nsfw we could just filter it and none of it will show up on the feed or the global page.
