I got my mom using a dropbox that I also have a password to. We learned how to encrypt ZIP files and have their wills, mortgages, vital paperwork etc all up there in the case of emergency. Why? Because my mom can figure it out and make it work. She figured out how to save the important pictures to the dropbox, save her recipes and tax returns. She and my dad also figured out how to use the scanner and scan in a lot of critical paperwork that I will need if they ever get ill. Why dropbox? I got a ton of space and got more for referring them. As long as we use encrypted ZIP files, it is sort of safe, kinda. Nothing "in the cloud" is ever going to be 100%, and given enough time will get hacked. I get that. I also get that my mom wants to click a button and know the stuff is stored "on that internet thing you set up for me." Putting nudes anywhere other than in a camera? Fucking stupid. They don't bother to know how their shit works and what the implications are. Cell phones work, and I got a lock screen, right? I see this at work, and I had to ban the Apple domain and turn off the USB ports on the computers so that people would stop syncing their damn iPhones to the network. Fortunately its all single moms in their 40's for the most part so it was kid pictures and shitty country music and not something terrible. Lessons learned. People like us who can use tech and understand the implications of its failure points, follies and screw ups are very, very, very rare. Maybe 2-5% of the tech userbase. I started a thread on this a while back... wow 9 months ago? Its like like the people that kept their nudes synced to the I cloud.... Why
