I hope everyone has or is enjoying the book. I know JakobVirgil finished it and liked it, anyone else any thoughts???

I enjoyed it quite a bit too, it was just what I anticipated---a good summer adventure. Look forward to hearing what everyone else thinks.

Slow reader here. I probably won't finish it this week, so next week I'll post some of my thoughts on it.

It's a fun read.

I'd say it was a very good read, but not great. I enjoyed it quite a lot, and it packs a huge emotional punch (trying to avoid spoilers here), but I was left a little bit dissatisfied at the slight lack of character development. The protagonist goes through hell and back, and I guess I was just hoping for more in how the events changed him, and more depth to Jaff's relationship with Tim. I did really appreciate the dispassionate way the author describes the most horrific scenes - that had the effect (to me) of realism, as the characters were, by that point, beyond the 'luxury' of normal human outrage at the circumstances.

I agree totally. In fact, I was trying to figure exactly how to articulate what my disappointments were and you did it so precisely. I do agree that I think the character development could have been much better, which would have made the story more satisfying. Although I must admit I was very moved at times, I wasn't really impacted at the end of the book or its characters (although I feel a certain fondness for them).

I agree, I felt the same way you did about the ending. In some ways it seemed unfinished or incomplete - for example, I felt like there should have been more done with whats-his-name, the oddball guy who was drawing the dragon (and somewhat blamed for their misfortune).

I'm halfway through. I have a new man in my life so...yeah....not so much reading this past week. I'll get it done though.
