It's a cold winter morning. The kids are still in bed wrapped in their enormous blankets. I was outside on the porch looking over the garden, wondering when I would dispel this dream.
She opened the door behind me, wrapping a small blanket tightly around her body. She sat down next to me scooting closer on the seat.
"What are you thinking about?" She asked after a comfortable silence.
"How I wish this was real." I said, turning to see her face.
"You're stuck in this fantasy again." She said, not meeting my eyes.
Her gaze was intense over the garden, neither of us speaking for a moment.
"We could've happened, but we were just at different points in life." She said as she placed her head on my shoulder.
"You have to let what could've happened go, try to earn what can be." She said
"I know." I said as I wrapped my arms around her. "This would've been fantastic. I hope that you know that as well." I murmured, as I slowly shifted on the seat, alone again.
