I dunno, I don't mean to dog on you but it's just such a weird car. It has '50s full size sedan styling in a little subcompact. The proportions feel all off, especially from a 3/4 profile view.

Let's just say that the styling on the Metropolitan hasn't aged well. They're kind of cute... but kind of weird in person. At that vintage though, you're right - the Metro is crushed by the MGA, the MG TF, the XK-120, the TR-2...

So true.

I should clarify... I like it because it is weird. I'll never forget the first time I saw one. I was riding a bike in Bozeman, MT and it passed by in traffic. I started pumping like a madman to catch up (Bozeman is a small town - so catching a car on main street isn't THAT hard). I found him a few streets up getting out the car and just barraged him with questions.

I think you're observation is dead on - and why it caught my eye. It's totally a

It was like seeing a model of an old Bel Air or something. Anyway - it is a dead-weird car... but they have always fascinated me.

I have no room to judge. I like El Caminos after all. :)

It's a muscle car... no! It's a truck! No! It's.....

EL.... CAMINO!!!!

I have a soft spot for the El Camino. I think almost any pre-1980 american iron gets at least a little love from me... but some more than others.
