I do it simple - upside down method, add coffee (adjust amount to your taste), and I add a small amount of cold water first, just enough to wet the grounds a little - just to bring the temperature down to a little below boiling (because I add boiling water). Stir, let it steep for a minute or so, then invert and press - slowly (put one hand on the plunger then rest your other hand on top of the first, that's all the pressure you need).
