This question was brought to you by me after hearing this today:
For some reason, I have always loved the guitar playing in Boston's Don't Look Back from the 2:50 mark to about the 3:45 mark.
these are two off the top of my head - relatively new ones. gotta love that dorian mode. I was lucky to have gotten to see this exact performance live. I was packed in about 10 feet off the main stage for that performance. that whole song I was like - 0_0. This blows my mind.
Yeah, that Prince solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps is amazing. I often play this for people.
Easy. Hands down, my favorite guitar riff of all time is the utterly simple chord structure to AC/DC's "Problem Child". D, A, D, G. Repeat. Drop to an E at the end of the bar, and then do it all over again. The absolute best part, though, is on the LP, after the song is over, the drummer kicks it off again, and they play an outro of just that riff, fade out. So fantastic. Sure, there are far more interesting guitar lines out there, but that's just pure snot-fueled middle finger to the establishment power chords. I love it!
Starts out as a solo, but a similar part for the verse. Beautiful. Chorus is crazy - Red Hot Chili Peppers - City of Angels (duh) IMHO, good riffs can be beautifully simple, a good mix and master can go a long way - Some of my favorites are buried in the middle of nu-synth-pop songs (start @1:47) - Can't wait to get back to songwriting. :) Edit: Timed YouTube links do not embed properly, but there is no way I can justify making a bugski post for the hubski devs to fix something as likely to change as the structure of YouTube's timed links.
Erm, Under the Bridge?Red Hot Chili Peppers - City of Angels (duh)
