Study + side projects are keeping me busy. I bought a $140 book on airport design yesterday. It's expensive but makes up for it by being superb and 800 pages of very thorough research.

I am oddly enthralled by the idea that the design and layout of airports is a serious serious academic subject. And not in any dismissive way either, I think it's really cool that so much thought and study gets put into how we use Space.

I find it very interesting how airports work, why they are designed the way they are and how they are operated. It's like a small nation with its own goverment, infrastructure, policies, regulations etcetera. Lots of planning challenges too. "Airport Systems, Second Edition" by Richard de Neufville if anyone's interested.

    if anyone's interested.

you know... like for a casual coffee table book... :)

actually - it sounds super interesting to me.

If you read those 800 pages your takeaway would still be to never go in the Detroit airport again, so it sounds like you're already in the right place.

But I second steve -- sooooooo skeptical of that train ride you say you found.

Yeah I was just looking at the first leg of the journey. Grand total ends up in the neighborhood of ~22 hours.
