An old red Jeep Cherokee flew past me this morning on I-96 with about 8 State Troopers in tow. They were going about as fast as an old red Jeep Cherokee can go, which I would estimate to be about 110 mph.
I saw them get exit on Telegraph, and expected that a crash was imminent.
Thankfully, no one was hurt.
What the police did was stupid. The suspects stole a shitty old car, and the police risked the lives of innocent people to catch the young men that stole it.
I wouldn't have full coverage on that Jeep, and I doubt the owner will be relieved to get it back in that condition.
They could have just as easily crashed into a minivan as into Coke truck.
- “Unfortunately for a couple of them, they were pretty out of shape, so we were able to take them into custody pretty quickly,” Shaw told WWJ’s Zahra Huber.
Hubris.
Too bad, the video starts just after they passed me.
That's true, but the article says "the men, who had allegedly stolen a red SUV from Southgate, broke into a home on Dequindre and 12 1/2 Mile Rd. Monday morning, setting off the pursuit." It wasn't just a joyride. Letting them go potentially risks the lives of innocent people too. Policy has been moving toward abandoning chases of "20-something males with bad driving records," which is probably for the best. I will miss the helicopter drama, though. Here's my favorite chase video [0:46]:The suspects stole a shitty old car, and the police risked the lives of innocent people to catch the young men that stole it.
Much to the dismay of TV executives, most cops will no longer conduct long chases that start when the officer tries to pull a motorist over for a broken taillight (though cops still chase suspected felons and other serious bad guys.)
Today they definitely put the lives at innocent people at risk. Also, they trashed the stolen car, and damaged a truck. It kinda freaked me out too. If my daughter were in the car with me, I would have been even more upset.Letting them go potentially risks the lives of innocent people too.
Wow, that is one meta police chase video. Pretty amazing.
Does anyone else actually root for the kid that runs away and hides under the trampoline?
