- Hillary Clinton’s had to defend her deep ties to Wal-Mart for years, but the history of campaign donations and her service on the Arkansas-based corporate giant’s board are playing into Sen. Bernard Sanders‘ hands this year.
Unlike many other liberals, Mrs. Clinton and her husband have refused to publicly brutalize Wal-Mart over the company’s pay scale and anti-union policies, leaving her open to attacks from Mr. Sanders and his allies, who say it’s proof she can’t be trusted to carry the economic warfare message Democrats need this year.
Alice Walton, the daughter of Sam Walton, the founder of the chain of big box stores, gave Mrs. Clinton’s Democratic National Committee Victory Fund $353,000 in December, a contribution just made public last month. Before that she contributed $25,000 to the Ready for Hillary political action committee.
This is so much easier than the Washington Times (eesh) would even lead you to believe... probably because they're an ultraconservative shitrag founded by an insane cult leader. But for fans of Bernie born in the last 30 years, the chronology is this: 1) Hilary Clinton is on the board of Walmart while her husband is governor 2) Hilary Clinton resigns Walmart when her husband is president 3) Bill pushes through NAFTA 4) American manufacturing craters; Walmart becomes the largest employer in America Obviously, you're not going to get that out of the Washington Times because they're about as pro-NAFTA as you could hope for. The only reason you're reading this is they hate Clinton more than they love NAFTA. But you're not going to get anti-NAFTA rhetoric from any of the republican candidates and for the most part, the Sanders campaign has stayed largely positive.
