I'm not sure if any movie threads that aren't about "Star Wars" are alive, but if this one isn't quite dead yet, could I suggest that the most interesting spaghetti westerns are any not directed by Sergio Leone? These days people think of him as Mister Spaghetti Western, but he directed a grand total of five of them, and only seven movies altogether (yes, I have seen "The Colossus Of Rhodes", and no, I wouldn't recommend it except for Leone completists). Good though Leone is (over half the movies he made are very good indeed, which is a superb average for any director), there were literally hundreds of spaghetti westerns covering the full gamut from the good to the bad via the downright ugly. Also, Sergio Leone may have been an excellent director, but he was a vile human being. Therefore if you actually want to say anything meaningful about spaghetti westerns, how about skipping the really obvious ones and having a look at the work of people like Sergio Corbucci? After all, he gave the world a character called Django, of whom we've heard quite a lot recently. Though since in all other films in which he appeared - and there are unofficially about 50 of them - Django was white, I'm not convinced that's the same guy. I'm not being racist, I'm just going by the law of averages. So, if you really want an interesting spaghetti western discussion, how about the following? Django Django Kill! A Bullet For The General Today It's Me, Tomorrow It's You A Professional Gun Compañeros The Big Silence If You Meet Sartana, Pray For Your Death Sabata The Return Of Sabata Adios, Sabata (etc. etc. etc.) I could go on, but the comments in most of the movie threads are so few and so short that I'm not sure anyone's really interested. However, if it's an actual ongoing thing, I'm your man - I do know my movies fairly well. This is a slightly old thread and you've already chosen "Once Upon A Time In The West", but if anybody can be bothered, how about revisiting this theme with the demented excesses of "Django"? Or if you want to get a tad more profound, "The Big Silence"? Because every reply you've had implies that people seem to think all spaghetti westerns were directed by Sergio Leone, which is a bit like saying that every zombie film ever made was directed by George Romero. Movies are supposed to be diverse. Let's make 'em so.
Discussion threads are always alive, but voting threads are ended after a few days. The club is gonna be back next week, though. I took a break for the holidays. Think we're gonna move on after Once Upon a Time. Don't want to really return to an old topic for the sake of diversity. However the user with the most shared comment in a round's discussion thread gets to choose the topic for the next vote. So there's that. And you can always drop by to nominate a film in a voting thread.
