Not to forget, memory is cheaper than ever now. There's no reason not to have an external HD or at the very least a flash drive or two sitting on your computer desk.

I've never been a big fan of this approach because if you need any sort of version control the mental overhead expands geometrically. But yes- if you just need to dump and forget, newegg has 1TB WD blues for like $44 today.

I only have five living files that I continually update. I never save over an old one. I just save it with the same filename but a new date, like so . . . "Filename 20XX/XX/XX." That way, if for any reason I ever need an older version, they're there with the new ones.
