I don't know if you people have already heard of this problem, but I know this is at least somewhat true. Porn and video game addiction are socially accepted, while people do not know what the concequences are. And they can be severe.

They can definitely be severe. I know people that joke about it and refer to the addiction of porn watching during work as "procrastibation", but it can have serious consequences. Same thing with video games. Now just imagine what's going to happen when porn video games start becoming all the rage?!

They lock themselves up in their rooms and order food online?

Yes. Consider many people work from home these days. My friend that mentioned the term is a virtual employee and could order take out to his bedroom all day long and nobody would be the wiser for some time.
I definitely don't play a lot of video games... but "porn has become the mainstream and the mainstream has become porn"
These are real addictions, but this is classic CNN, attempting to create the impression of something widespread, or growing, based on anecdotes.
Funny: Psychologist Dr. Philip Zimbardo is a professor emeritus at Stanford University and is world-renowned for his 1971 research, the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Philip Zimbardo is heralded the world over. In some eastern European countries they've replaced Christmas with Zimbardon and there's talk of adding his powerful face to Mt. Rushmore.
Hyperbole aside, the study does seem to be referenced often.

I know this is CNN, but the issue is real. Even the most compulsive liars sometimes tell the truth ;-)

I agree that the issue is real, but it might not be widespread. -That's just my point of contention. It's a recurring type of article that describes a new cultural shift, but only provides anecdote to establish that any shift is taking place. I've just become hypersensitive to it I guess, and it drives me crazy. Journalists should be held to a higher standard.

Agreed. If this is a real phenomenon, you would never know it form this article. Is rampant depression among teenagers new? No. How do we have any proof that depressed people are just more likely to watch porn regularly, because they need to feel something other than shitty?
