And in turn, I wondered what famous people you've met... So go on.. share!
I'll kick it off:
Where: Einstein's bagels Provo, Ut
When: Summer 1997
What:Michael Stipe walked out as I walked in. After a few seconds, I realized who it was, went outside, shook his hand and said something stupid like "had to do it so I could say I did it". He seemed to be a nice enough guy.
I went back in to the bagel shop where my friends were waiting. When I told them what happened and what I had said, one of my friends with a great, dry sense of humor said "I would have asked him how to pronounce Eponymous"
The guy with the music was John Paul Jones, and the song was "Stairway to Heaven", before it had hit the radio.
Kid Rock-terrible tipper if you don't have boobs (he came to the place I worked on many occasions). Steven Wright (comedian)-was nice, he is his stage persona. The car talk guys-they are funny guys and were friends of a crack up manager at a place I worked. Barry Sanders-tipped 5% on a meal when dining with his mom. The Who-I gave the table to someone who was a fan as I am not, but they seemed like nice people. Courtney Taylor-Taylor of the Dandy Warhols-He isn't as famous as he thinks he is, a total asshole. A few other indi-music stars while bar tending, but no one all that jaw dropping, the lady from Scout Nibblet just a week or two ago. I don't really like meeting famous people. Meeting politicians is more fun in my opinion. The mayor of Portland Or. drinks at the bar I am working as often as once a month. Unlike generaly famous people politicos are always on the make, trying to impress and befriend and they work for me, so they have to listen to me (or act like they do). I like telling the mayor "good work" or "what the hell are you guys doing down there" in response to his job performance. I don't go over the line and hassle him, but it's fun. I met former governor Neil Goldschmidt at a meeting over the formation of a public power utility district, he was working for the forces of evil, trying to take over our power system (TPG utilities). I was there in favor of the setting up a public utility district. Most the people there were old enough to collect social security, more then one person said it was nice to see a young person concerned over the issue, I think that is why the governor singled me out for a little grease down. He was soooo fucking charismatic, spent about ten minutes trying to win me over, if I were just a hair weaker willed I would have totally agreed with him that the devil himself should control the distribution of power in our community. About six month later the Gov got arrested for pedophilia, seems he was molesting his baby sitter for years.
Rasheed: Nods in annoyance and slight recognition. "mm hmm" I'm not a huge NBA fan, probably should have been astol and not me.
