I've seen a few articles detailing Hitler's rise to power and the parallels that can be drawn with Trump. Is there merit to this? I'm not super familiar with the inner workings of the US political system, so is a similar scenario even possible?
Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! I don't think we can know. There's no precedent for dangerous celebrity morons being elected to executive office. Even Hitler was a politician.
Reagan. Jane Fonda. (Ok, so she saw an adviser and not elected) Schwarzenegger. Fred Thompson. Cooter from Dukes of Hazard. I personally will never vote for, give money to, or support the candidacy of a entertainer or celebrity in our government. I want people to show up and get the work done, not play make believe for the camera. There's no precedent for dangerous celebrity morons being elected to executive office. Even Hitler was a politician.
Eh.... sort of. He came in and tried to make a bunch of very right-leaning people happy. He ended up ditching them and got some decent environmental work done. More of a wash than anything. Granted I did not live there and only know what friends and family tell me.
Donald Trump is not going to get elected. Herman Cain was never going to get elected. Ron Paul was never going to get elected. Much like Bernie Sanders is never going to get elected, Ralph Nader was never going to get elected, ... The extremes get attention, and are exciting/terrifying if you lean far one way or the other and haven't burned out yet, but they never really have a chance.
I would be shocked if Trump won the primary, but if it came down to Trump and Clinton then yes. Committed Republicans will vote for a clown if he has an (R) next to his name, but committed Republicans alone aren't enough to win a presidential election.
I am not very motivated to "support" Hillary Clinton, but if Trump were her opposition candidate I would be much more likely to be a "supporter" of her
America would have it's core values and freedoms corrupted even further in the mindset of conserving what is right. And lots of war.
Future's gonna look the same. Honestly these days, it doesn't really matter who is President on a broad scale. Sure, we may see some crazy attempts at some sketchy executive orders and bills when he first gets into office, but Court and Congress won't let much happen I bet. Taking a cue from Max Weber, which I find myself more and more in agreement with for the modern era, we should really care more about who he appoints. I'm not even sure who's gonna be available to appoint. Not like he's gonna want establishment Republicans on his Cabinet, nor would they want to be there. Nor do I see him being too friendly with much of academia or the current bureaucracy. That pretty much leaves private sector leaders, and that's been done on a limited scale before, but leaves some departments in some pretty sketchy straits. A CEO running the Department of Education sounds like a bad idea, no matter what their politics are. But, it won't really matter. He won't even get the nomination, much less the presidency.
Trump is too old to be Hitler. He's 69 or so. The pressures of the presidency might kill him three years from now. You never know. Now the key question to a Trump Presidency is will he be able to get things done? The Republicans in office don't necessarily like him, so he might have some trouble getting his plans done. Who knows really? At the end of the day, I just don't see him getting elected. I don't see the majority of Americans going for Trump. The extremes are out and about these days but there is a reason they are extremes. I really feel like the grand majority is going to wake up when it comes to Trump and just not choose him.
