It's bizarre that 50% of the voting population has to deal with this. Personally, I put most of the blame on the patriarchal nature of most religions in the US. They help maintain a narrative that not only pushes male-domination, but defines sexual equality as a rejection of something, rather than a natural state of operations. Still IMHO, the US is slowly coming to terms with the notion that whether or not you are a man or a woman is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to most things.
