They have been doing stem cell treatments for certain types of blindness in China for a while now, with claims of some success. The problem is China are famous liars when it comes to science, so its difficult to know whom to trust. I hope this therapy works well, and that this reinvigorates the field to some extent. The news media have been lukewarm to it lately, it seems.

Seems like there are so many possibilities with stem cells that potential breakthroughs are always on the horizon. I can understand the media not wanting to get everyone too excited, especially when it's just a trial and results haven't happened yet. But who wouldn't want to break a story about curing a certain kind of blindness...

Yeah, I think it was too overdone a few years ago, and now the public thinks "Where are the treatments?" Michael J Fox is back in the news, but this time saying that he isn't so confident in stem cells anymore. I find this sad. Antibody therapies are widely employed in medicine these days with amazing results in some cases. They were in development for ~30 years before they were employed clinically. Things don't work at the speed of light in medicine.
