Hubski, meet Al.
Who: About two years ago, Al's daughter and my daughter were in the same preschool class. Our wives are physicians. Turns out, Al and I are both huge music fans. In fact, he has an incredibly extensive vinyl collection and he loves to have you over to listen to it. But, unlike many collectors, he's not a snobby dick, he's actually one hell of a nice guy. Throw in the added bonus that he likes beer, wine and food, and you can see why I like the guy. Also, we occasionally run together.
Why: I think Al would be a great addition to the Hubski community. He would love the #hubskioriginalmusicclub -he was a punk drummer back in the day and played with some good groups. He would be an awesome addition to the #weeklymusicthread -I have no doubt he'd introduce people to some good new music. He would also be great at contributing to the #grubski tag, -He's a phenomenal cook. Also, like many of us, Al has the kind of job that would allow him to check out Hubski once or twice a week or even day.
Next step: I'm going to send Al a link to this post and invite him to create a Hubski account and comment here. If he does, please say hello and welcome him.
A note to Al: Al, I've been on Hubski for a long time and I don't take doing something like this lightly. I'm essentially introducing you to my closest circle of friends, people whose opinions I value as high as any other people I socialize with. I hope you will create an account and check out our little corner of the Internet. If you do, please leave a comment below. If you need help figuring anything out, let me know.
Cheers,
Steve (thenewgreen)
For a moment there I thought Hubski just rolled out its own AI. Greetings Al, human of natural intelligence and not tng's ingenious plan to design an ultra-smart robot that will disperse Hubski stickers and achieve world domination.
I'm going to jump right in and say Hi Al! Hubski is a fantastic community that takes things a little bit slower and thinks about things a little bit more than some other networks do, one of the best features is you're able to follow people as well as the topics so you can share something nobody has yet shown interest in but people will still find it. Discussions also don't really die here, find something good and jump in!
hey hubski, i decided to make the sales guy sweat it out 'til year end... thanks for the welcome. i told steve i'm more of a lurker/luddite/troglodyte on social media these days, not really making good use of the medium... but i'll try to check in here and there... as steve mentioned, i'm prone to opine on a few topics... international psychedelic music (all kinds of music really) international arthouse / thriller / noir / etcetera cinema international cuisine international political economy (in that order... actually not likely to say anything about the last one these days) i'll be around. -al
Welcome! I'd give your comment a badge but I'm fresh out. From your description you would think that you're not too keen on anything domestic. For anyone reading this, Al has a pretty amazing record collection, is a badass cook and has an amazing family. He is a good addition to the halls of Hubski, whether he be lurking or otherwise. Speaking of international music, you ever listen to Tom Ze?
I love Tom Ze' ... crazed stuff. brazil is a bit of a pandora's box i've been peeking into the past several years... bring a 6 pack over and i'll play you a bunch, and a bunch more... Light in the Attic released some amazing reissues by Marcos Valle a year or 2 ago, which may have gone a bit under the radar, but they are FANTASTIC, and long overdue for release in the States. check out any of his first albums from the 70s... "garra" might be my fave, but all are solid. Welcome! I'd give your comment a badge but I'm fresh out. From your description you would think that you're not too keen on anything domestic.

This one? I would love to bring over a six pack and listen to music. First, let's go to a bar and drink whisky. I haven't been to a bar in ages. No joke.
Hi Al, I've been on hubski a few months now from time to time. I haven't commented much, but if you do join, definitely check out The Sunday Paper and pubski - they're both regular features and my two favourite parts of the sites.
thenewgreen Did Al ever come? Hopefully he just missed this post, or didn't think to check it ou.
Hello Al. I have some vinyl and like to think I'm not a snobby dick, either. I have music I like and a stereo I like (and like to talk about). I also sometimes run.
