I think the reason most right wing ideologues espouse Ayn Rand is actually quite simple; they no nothing of her works, but know that other right wingers espouse her. They therefore follow along blindly because its the only thing semi-(pseudo, really)-intellectual about the modern version of their movement. Want to sound smart?...Talk about Ayn Rand!

I think you are, unfortunately, right. I have to think that the "Paul Ryans" have actually read her work but she has merely become a "talking point" for most GOPers. If any of them actually heard her, theyd likely stop holding her up in such praise.
