Vampire Weekend is one of my favorite bands and I have seen them live three times. My favorite album is Contra and my favorite songs off that album are "Contra" and "Giving Up The Gun." For a long time I thought the girl on the cover of Contra was one of the most beautiful girls ever and wished, a lot, that I could look like her. The music video for "Giving Up The Gun" is really great.
I totally agree. I love the meaning behind the video too. If you just like crazy somewhat mind-boggling music videos with amusing celebrity cameos, another personal favorite is Ke$ha's "Blow" which features James van der Beek and kicks off with one of my favorite "wtf but hilarious" lines: "And I said 'Bear, you have until the count of zero to put some pants on.' "
Wow. It may be that I am the old guy here but that was an assault on my ears and brain that could only be described as the results of Dubstep, EDM, K-Pop, and Disney Boy Bands spending a weekend in a German sex dungeon. The "Vampire Weekend stuff is not bad music.
Is it embarrassing if I had to look up who James van der Beek was? (I've never seen Dawson's Creek!) Can't say that Ke$ha is really my style, but I found the video entertaining :P My all-time favourite celebrity cameo in a music video is still Chevy Chase in You Can Call Me Al and in a similar vein... But I just love Sir Ian :)
They're a great band, with amazing songwriting. When they dropped their first album we listened to it a gazillion times. Same thing with Modern Vampires, all three albums are great though. I've never seen them live, but I'd jump at the chance. You dig Discovery? I've listened to that album a gazillion times too:
