Seriously, it's failure by design. Why be the shepherd of that?

I think that's short-sighted. Tom Foley. Newt Gingrich. Dennis Hastert. Nancy Pelosi. They got shit done - it was ugly and unpleasant to watch, but they led. As time went on they led less and less; I think Gingrich taking down Foley was the start of ugly-ass divisive politics and it's coming to a head. but it isn't so much failure by design as sowing dragon's teeth. The institution doesn't have to be completely dysfunctional, it just is these days because of how we conduct elections.

I'm not sure this breed can be put to use. Many of these folk measure success as not getting things done. If government works, they've failed.

"This breed" is probably 70% "that breed" with about 20% crazy-ass teabagger loonies. Which sort of puts the looniness effect in perspective.

That chart shows what the impacts of Gerrymandering do to your government. It is also why the system feels like it is stuck in the 1970's.

Oh, it's a catastrophic chart, no doubt. But the idea that "ZOMG Tea Party has taken over teh govermintz" flies in the face of just how stupefyingly incumbent American politics tends to be.
