I'm afraid.

I truly dislike 3D. Gimicky is a compliment.

48fps? ok - but make sure your theatre is equipped if not - it will just be a 24fps circus. I personally don't like the look of higher frame rates. I'll still see it (despite the 3d) because frankly, I loved the trilogy. fingers crossed that 3D doesn't ruin it... like it ruins everything else (except Avatar - which was ruined to begin with).

Dwarf Tossing? It's a tie between that and the elf shield surfing.

So far the only 3D movies I've enjoyed are horror movies (Final Destination 5 and My Bloody Valentine, for example), because those movies are ridiculous to begin with. I don't mind an extra gimmick of blood squirting at you or an ax flying your way. Any movie that I would otherwise take seriously I won't see in 3D.

and that's the problem, right? Like - I want to be able to take the Hobbit seriously.

and you're right - blood squirting, appendage severing, monster lunging = the perfect use of 3D.

I've tried to forget the "elf shield surfing". Thanks a lot pal.
