Joe Holt, a computer consultant and entrepreneur who has a diagnosis of schizophrenia, describes how he's learned to manage the voices in his head.
I'm trying to imagine what it would be like if my internal dialog started carrying on against my will. Every once in a while when I am stressed out, I'll repeat questions or phrases in my head more than I'd like. I have to imagine that schizophrenia would feel like that at a much higher amplitude.
We all have an internal dialogue playing in our mind. Some of us can't control this dialogue and the mind takes over in the drivers seat -you've perhaps seen these people on street corners or on public transportation systems talking/yelling at themselves or invisible others. Although I certainly have an over-active internal dialogue I cannot imagine what it would be like for it to appear as if it were speaking to me from as a separate entity. I can't imagine "hearing" it rather than "thinking" it. -This would be terrifying.
