I thought this was pretty sensationalized, too: This shouldn't shock any but the most devout Muslims. It need not invalidate anyone's faith, though. Prophet or not, their faith need not be supported by scholarly study in the same way that scholarly study should not be made to conform with faith. Some scholars believe, however, that Muhammad did not receive the Quran from heaven, as he claimed during his lifetime, but instead collected texts and scripts that fit his political agenda.
When you believe the entire world is based on something, on the existence of a single omnipotent being that created the world, lack of this being showing up in any study but your faith should be quite a sign. While I agree that you can believe whatever you want, it gets to the point that you have to be very willfully ignorant of reality to continue to have faith.Prophet or not, their faith need not be supported by scholarly study in the same way that scholarly study should not be made to conform with faith.
