When they are they are in their 60's, they are set in their ways. It's not going to matter what you say to her she will always be who she is. Just let her be herself, and you be proud of who you have become. Don't spend the next possible 10-15 she has left on Earth arguing over such matters. Your mom cannot be responsible for what her friend sends her.

I feel that having such arguments deprives your parents of their lifeforce, it will drain her, and for no good reason.

My mother is a Republican too, and cannot be told anything. It's best just to let them be and enjoy what time you have left with them. There is good in everyone.

You're pretty much off the point. He clearly states it's not about liking Oby or not, being Dem, Rep or whatever else. Simply about forwarding mass lies, or more specifically: avoiding to look stupid when doing it.

"Qui bene amat bene castigat" is part of a good Republican education, isn't it?

"Spare the Rod and spoil your parent"? I agree with you that the point is about forwarding lies and misinformation. Both sides do it, so it's not a partisan thing. It's also not an "age" thing. I think that the child is just as responsible for informing the parent as the parent is to inform the child. Ignorance is not bliss.

Well said. I wouldn't ruin the relationship over something this trivial.

But don't be quick to throw all Republicans under the bus... ;-)
