If anyone else is curious as I was, Joti Jot apparently means "Upon departure of the soul from the body at death, the radiance returns to merge with creator's light." I am still not clear on why it is mentioned after speaking of someone's death though. Fun fact: The Golden Temple in Amritsar, India feeds nearly 100,000 people free of charge every day and uses about 7,000 kg of wheat flour, 1,200 kg of rice, 1,300 kg of lentils, 500 kg of ghee to do so. It is also a very nice building. And just in case you missed it, there was a bit of a kerfuffle on reddit about a Sikh woman a couple of years ago that turned out very well.
