Coming from a very billboard-dense state, I once found myself driving through relatively billboard-free Kentucky. The experience was refreshing enough to convince me of the fundamental value of eliminating advertisements.

Aside from the subjective idea that life is just better without ads plastered over every square inch of spare turf, the battle against ad blockers is silly for one simple reason: once some bytes enter a user's computer, they can and will do whatever they want with those bytes, including ignoring directives for displaying advertisements. There's really nothing to be done about that.
