I rode the Golden Gate Bridge earlier this summer. The scenery was great, of course, but beyond that, not a superb experience. The walking/biking way is super crowded, the roadway is just an arms reach away, and most people have no clue what is going on. The lack of proper signage and markings means that people are going both directions on both sides of the path. If you are doing it for the scenery, you have to stop, there is no way to look and ride without injuring someone.
That's too bad. Hopefully they can take steps to improve the experience. I'll grant that you are not far from traffic on Lions Gate either, (though you are separated and riders pedal/walk one direction on each side) but the couple of observation decks along the way add a lot of character. Thanks for the feedback!
The view was even better from the freeway bridge -- my city shuts down all the bridges in town for cyclists one Sunday every August. This bridge is prettiest. It's the bridge Greenpeace protesters used to block a ship from drilling in the Arctic.
