Seriously guys, just block him. I have and it's made a world of difference to me on this site.
I choose to bear witness instead. I'm afraid that, long term, a community spring up in a filtered corner of hubski. I'm not okay with that.
I feel the same. Whether or not he listens to anything anyone comments at him is irrelevant. Someone has to call him on his bullshit for the benefit of the rest of the community. That may not always or ever be me but I'd at least like to keep track of the shit he's spewing.
He muted me for a pretty tame comment that disagreed with him on feminism. I wouldn't be surprised if he does that with others. The end result is that his posts can only be commented on by those who don't piss him off so he's pretty much creating an actual echo-chamber/circlejerk for himself and his followers on the site.
He is turning out to being a great study on the possible negative effects and potential abuses of this site's moderation system. The end result is that his posts can only be commented on by those who don't piss him off so he's pretty much creating an actual echo-chamber/circlejerk for himself and his followers on the site.
I guess the hope is still that randomuserjoe who comes along and sees the comments will stop to think and perhaps realize that maybe userwhoshallnotbenamed is wrong and toxic to the community. Clearly nothing said to userwhoshallnotbenamed has or will have an effect.
Yes. In the past I've alluded to the concern of such a microcosm developing as an unintended consequence of the moderation tools on this website. That's why he's only one of three people blocked. Normally, I would do the same but for some reason I kept on finding myself compelled to antagonizing him, which I think was starting to make me look equally bad. So it's less of a "I don't want to see what he has to say" and more of a "I don't want his mud on me."
He muted me for suggesting in one of his posts that people who have a problem with him should mute him. So weird. I just check every couple days to see if he's given up. That's how I saw this thread that seems to be mentioned without being mentioned by OP. In it he dared anyone to find something racist he said and I know I had words with him for being racist but I'm muted. \_(ツ)_/ It doesn't matter anyway. I like coming here but I wouldn't say the daily goings on are important. Ignore isn't just a button, it's not caring made into a feature and people should just move along. It's not important if someone is an asshole on the internet.
Indeed. The internet is full of them. Still, it's important to be wary for people who are willfully malicious and could potentially bring tangible harm to others. Doxing, Swatting, IRL harassment, and God knows what else. I'm not saying that he is the latter, just that those are very real risks we all face by choosing to interact with each other on a public forum. It's actually why I would scrub accounts and create new ones every 3-6 months, why I never post photos of myself or my surroundings, tell people where I live, discuss the particulars of my job, and on and on and on. Hubski is kind of weird for me, because for the first time in many, many years, I see value in maintaining the same account. On the one hand, it's something I want to do because it holds an emotional value to me. On the other, I feel like the longer it exists, the more at risk I am.It's not important if someone is an asshole on the internet.
We're not really to that point here. You can visit my personal blog http://chrislivingstonart.wordpress.com and I don't feel I'm at risk of anything putting that out on my profile. Personally, I would've banned grendel a while ago but he's just being a prick so I understand not going to that length on mk or tng's part. I would rule my own social news alligator with an iron fist.
I blocked him a while ago, didn't think he was still around until this came up. Normally I am not one to outright mute someone, because even if I disagree with your input to a discussion, it has merit by stimulating thoughts and counterarguments, which benefits our community. This is blatant harassment, and I dislike that.
Indeed, which is why he's only one of three people I've blocked. If I had to guess, I'd say he's starting to get desperate for attention, hence such an outlandish post. ThatFanficGuy, you're handling this quite well, not getting too upset. Keep on being you bro.
Seriously, he was the first person I ever blocked (most are spammers, and I always forget which one I should do), and it made the front page so much better. He's like the embodiment of the FPH-Redpill-Reactionary movement on Reddit. He'll post a couple normal things, then make a post like "Why women/minorities suck." I spotted him from a mile away, because I spend a lot (way too much) time on meta subs, and they all have the same song and dance. After a couple of days, it's like he doesn't exist.
Elaborate on how someone you block "leaks." Use the tools. Don't feel
Bad for using them, they're there for a reason. But tell me, specifically, how a post of someone you have blocked got in to your feed please.
Same. Others' responses will show up in chatter or community
Thanks to you and others. This is how the site improves, by giving specifics as to where the "holes" are. We can now fix stuff. I think we have a handle on how some content could/did slip through and will fix it. Sincerely, thanks.
The sad thing is that he does actually share some interesting content related to science or technology. He shared an article about MIT finding a language universal last week. It's the other stuff that's terrible.
see that's how they get you. they try and present a "reasonable" front, but then next thing you know it's all antimulticulturalism and biotroofs about how women and minorities are inferior
