Right now, my least favorite trends in microbrew is that everyone keeps trying to out hop each other. I don't understand it. Hops are awesome when they're subtle. They're gross when the brewer tries to beat you over the head with them. I think it's a reaction to the generally tasteless macrobrewers, but it shows a lack of regard for actual flavor. It seems like most American pale ales theses days are hopped more than the IPAs of 5 or 10 years ago, and the IPAs are undrinkable at this point.
