I think the Atlantic fucked that up. If you click through to the ALA site, they make it clear that there were 326 "reports regarding attempts to remove or restrict materials from school curricula and library bookshelves". Then it goes on to say that these were the book that were most challenged. I think that a challenge and "an attempt to remove" are different, although they don't define the latter.
