Hubski's resistant to porn because people won't want their porn showing up in the feeds of their followers with whom they have Classy Discussions. People might still make new accounts specifically for posting and sharing porn, but at least it won't be like reddit where people can subscribe to porn subreddits and vote on porn without anyone being able to tell by looking at their account.
As a Hubski user, I'm personally resistant to porn on Hubski for three simple reasons. 1) Hubski is a great entertainment site without that stuff propping it up. I don't need other people to share porn with me. Not here, not Reddit, not anywhere else. If I wanna see it, I know where to find it. 2) Hubski is a small site, and believe it or not, sharing port is a huge legal liability. mk and co. would probably rather do without the extra responsibility and worry that comes with such behavior. 3) Sharing porn and discussing it with others is flat out weird, creepy, and gross. This site is too good to have to carry that stigma.
These are good reasons to explain why we don't currently have to deal with porn on hubski. Because of the current norms against pornography, new users will adopt the mindset you've described here. But, eventually we will get people who just don't care, or who care specifically to bother people with porn. Fortunately, for the reasons I outlined, I believe hubski is structurally more resistant to those kind of people ever getting a foothold or following. There's more friction since you'd have to make a second account to hide your porn habits.
IMO the internet has managed to support titillation quite well. Improving upon that isn't really something we are interested in. On the other hand, the internet doesn't support thought-provoking discussion very well, and that's a problem that we are very interested in. If we supported the former, it would likely mean less energy that we could spend on the latter.
p.s. I just searched for "porn" on Hubski, and this was the result: https://hubski.com/tag?id=porn&time=all Even the #porn tag is not really porn.
And this is also another reason why I love Hubski - since it's text, even if it's NSFW it's technically SFW because no one notices when text is NSFW unless they're particularly reading, and even then it's far from being as bad.
As a teenaged girl who hangs here for the discussions... Why do people want porn here? Why would people want to their porn FROM here? Hubski is the intelligent conversation you have with your friends who you secretly suspect are all smarter than you but humour you anyway - and whom you like so much that you don't care if that is the case. For me looking at porn on hubski would be like brining all your folders of literature, biology, chemistry... etc. to school. And then the porn one. To show your friends, and your teacher, and the janitor, and the younger kids at the high school next door... Just, go on tumblr, or Reddit, or AO3, or wattpad, or whateverTUBE or just search for tits on bing. That'll probably work. Do you really want hubski curated porn? Long discussions about plot, and lighting and backstory... about frickin' porn? Do you REALLY want that? Really?
I didn't direct it at you - sorry if it seemed that way. I am just very suprised that there are people - in this age of internet diversity who would like to shit were they eat. So to speak. I was also quite confounded about porn on Reddit for similar - but not exactly the same - reasons.
