I love listening to music from games when I work. Perfect transition from playing hard to working hard.
Anyhow. Favorites are Final Fantasy (nice compilation here https://goo.gl/aKuY02 ) Sim City 3000 is also amazing for focus. Right now I'm listening to the soundtrack from Bastion. Love it!
Please share your favs. I'm looking at you eightbitsamurai
No particular order. In the interest of saving space on your screens I've shied away from linking all of these Youtube videos directly. Edit - Dropping Risk of Rain up here at the top. Phenomenal soundtrack. Every track is extremely well done and it's one of the few albums where I never skip a song. Toss up between Monsoon and Precipitation for my personal favorite songs. FTL (PC) and the expansion. Both links are to the musician's website where you can play them by track. Titles marked (explore) are slower, while (battle) are faster/more energetic. StarCraft/Brood War - Opening Theme (PC) and Terran One even though the Terran are dirty scrubs. Metroid Prime (GC) Shoutout to Phendrana Drifts Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (GC) Playlist, unfortunately. Main Theme, Torvus Bog, and Chykka Larva are all solid picks. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) Earthbound (SNES) The first game I remember getting angry at. That bitch killed my bee friend. One of the best and most trippy RPGs of all time. Chrono Trigger (SNES) Mega Man X (SNES) Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES) Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) Europa Universalis 4 - Eire (PC) Goldeneye 007 - Facility (N64) Battletanx - Main Theme (N64) Bomberman (N64) Ragnarok Online (PC) Jurassic Park (SNES) For some reason this game was really overlooked. Pretty much every track is awesome. Sins of a Solar Empire - Opening Theme (PC) Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion - Opening Theme (PC) Civilization IV - Baba Yetu (PC) That's all I can think of off the top of my head. May end up with a few more later.
I'm stuck on the Noether (Zoltan B). Stupid thing has no shields, so the first 200 scrap goes to upgrading shields + reactor. An early asteroid field or beam weapon = gg real fast. Boarding parties wreck your poor Zoltan crewmembers. Made it to Sector 5 last time and forgot to re-power my O2 after repairing it during a tough fight. Whole crew suffocated.
God I've had some awful, awful runs on that game. I've never really made it very far at all - I think, more than anything, I just enjoyed always starting over, just rolling the dice and seeing how I did, knowing full well that I was crap at the game and would probably die very rapidly, haha.
Yeah, you can really get screwed out of nowhere. This past week I had 4 consecutive runs that I lost within 4 jumps of starting, but I did end up winning with the Zoltan B, so that's good. The Lanius are by far my favorite guys to run with. Venting all the O2 out of the ship and upgrading door strength makes boarding parties hilarious. Also getting a crew teleporter and jumping your guys into the enemy Med/Clone Bay and then the O2 room produces similarly enjoyable results.
Journey springs to mind, the game struck a real chord in me and it's in part due to the soundtrack.
If you like chiptunes, Shovel Knight's Soundtrack is dope as fuck. Super Meat Boy Also, Hotline Miami's soundtrack.
Super Meatboy's soundtrack is definitely great. I also really like Bastion's
One of my favorite, if not THE favorite gaming OST of mine is still the NeoTokyo OST, which was some random mod for UT, if I remember correctly: It was also the first thing that got me into drum'n'bass a looooong time ago. I have so many favorite pieces in there, it's so awesome! What I'm also missing in here are some of the WoW soundtracks. No matter what you think about the game/the addons themselves, but Blizzard did an outstanding job creating a fitting OST for every expansion: The whole Pandaria add-on is based on adventure and discovery of a new culture (which is based on Eastern cultures irl). It then quickly turns into a conflict between the Alliance and the Horde, fighting for predominance in that new country, while you still have the people from that culture living there and suffering from the conflict. And just the opening of that OST tells that story without words, it's incredible. They did an outstanding job on all of them. Other than that, +1 for the Super Meat Boy and Shovel Knight linked here in this thread for representing awesome chiptune music.
Mass Effect 3! I listened to that soundtrack a lot during finals one year to focus, it's just so epic, somber, and inspiring. The entire album is on Spotify I think, but these are a few of my favorite tracks: Leaving Earth and its coda later in the album An End Once And For All Mars - sort of the traditional mass effect song. Credits But the whole things is definitely worth a listen.
Just use #askhubski - #askhubskigaming is too niche for a small website.
thanks. that was a typo. but it's good to think about the scale of hubski.
Stealth Bastard's OST is easily my favorite, followed by Fez.
My favorite ones have to be: Still Alive Ezio's Family I love listening to these tracks on repeat while I shut my eyes and just zone out to the melodies.
Chrono Trigger has, in my opinion, the best soundtrack of any game I've played (and I personally consider it to be the best video game, period, in no small part because of the soundtrack). Not only does it have great songs, it's songs are consistently great. While some stand out more than others, I cannot say that I dislike a single track. Corridors of Time in particular is a track I will never get tired of for as long as I live. Metroid Prime and Super Metroid have some excellent tracks (Norfair and it's redux and Phenrana Drifts spring to mind).
Secret of Mana's music is either delightfully upbeat, perfectly frantic or incredible ambiance. Incredible game with music that fits it like a spandex bodysuit. The Fallout games do an absolutely excellent job capturing the 50s-esque pre-war era. Megaman X. Especially well done by a certain Smooth McGroove. Lastly, the Zelda series has graced us with so much amazing music over the years. To name a few: Farewell Hyrule King, Dragon Roost Island, Temple, Clock Town, Tal Tal Heights, Stone Tower Temple, Song of Healing.
Definitely gotta say Bastion is my favorite one. I burned it to a CD because that and cassettes are the only way I can listen to my music in my car, and sometimes I'll just play the whole soundtrack on somewhat longer than normal commute. It's beautiful and it really feels like it takes me on a journey.
I really enjoy Child of Lights' soundtrack; the pieces are absolutely beautiful and the game is easily of my favorites.
Shadow of the Colossus! By far my favorite soundtrack in a game. The way it's incorporated into the game is brilliant and some pieces gave me chills during certain battles. Counterattack, my favorite track comes from my favorite boss. When this song started after I jumped from my horse and made my way on this flying monster's back, I felt like the most epic adventurer ever. The Opened Way is a popular track too. Also like A Despair-Filled Farewell.
Sleeping Dogs, honestly. Introduced me to some awesome music and I love the OST as well.
