I'm super excited for this year! It'll be my third year on playa. I'm signed up for an alpha shift (RANGER HOGWILD!!!) and I'm helping my camp build our annual palm tree light show.
So, is there any interest in a meetup this year? What projects are people working on?

yes, this is our art car. I spent many a night in an undisclosed warehouse helping build it. And the tale of how it was almost lost on its 2nd journey to playa last year is a riveting one.
I'll be there! It's my first burn. Another user, JackTheBandit mentioned they were going as well. I spent last weekend building plywood furniture for our camp and working on my swamp cooler.
This weekend we are working on a mylar shade structure and figuring out power for the camp. What's an alpha shift?
An alpha shift is a "test shift" for a new BRC Ranger. Before you hit the playa, you go to training. Once you get there, you have to prove that you'll be a good ranger, so you undergo some stress tests and perform a dirt shift with a mentor Ranger. So if I pass my alpha shift, I'll be a Ranger this year! (Black Rock Rangers are nonconfrontational community mediators. They go around helping out disoriented or distressed participants, resolve conflicts, and generally act as trustworthy authorities in cool hats. The goal is to intervene before law enforcement becomes necessary. Even though a Ranger's authority comes entirely through social capital and people listening to them, there's a shared incentive to allow Rangers to resolve issues before cops are necessary.)
I think user steve is as well. Doing my alpha build of our shade structure this weekend. Beta build in an actual field next weekend. I really just want to use these lag bolts, lol.
I was in DPW this year and might be next year but friends (and I might help them) are building up an arabic-themed camp :) So there shouldn't be a problem to find you a place 2017 because some friends want to get married there and it feels natural. MidBurn needs some support for its third year and then I can hand my job to someone else (I have to choose one burn a year)
I'd be down. For our pod in our camp in our village, building out or own 10 x 10 shade structure and swamp cooler. Making some custom outfits. Considered an actual art piece for a while, but probably not going to happen. 8:30 & K, yo.
I'm down to meet over by you guys. If you're interested our camp is at Arcade & 2:15, and we are doing screwdriver & pancake breakfasts: http://playaevents.burningman.org/playa_event/13652/
I'm glad being placed in the burbs makes catching sleep easier.
cooler goes outside. the fan in the cooler should be able to replace the air inside the tent/yurt/space within 3-5 min or less. the space being cooled needs ventilation for the air to escape lest you create a humid disaster.
