Not to long ago a travel the length of Vietnam from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city. I was struck by how different the Capitol (Hanoi), the centre of the what was the Communist north was from Ho Chi Minh (formerly Saigon) in the South. Saigon feels incredibly European in places with designer shops, franchised fast food places, and lots of night clubs. It feels a world apart from Hanoi where I walked home after 12pm one night and the city seemed entirely asleep with virtually no traffic out.
