I find haiku is a lot of fun in the severe limitations it imposes. Yet at the same time, haiku are easy to approach because they are so short. Honestly, I am most likely to participate in a writing prompt probably if it is a haiku one.

Precisely. Ludology - the study of games and playing - tells us that we have most fun from games that have strict and well-defined rules, even if there aren't many of them. This way, we can both have fun working under and around them.

While you can't bend the rules of haiku (unless you want to put more words in, and then you do what I did - insert shortened auxillary verbs what'd otherwise take a whole syllable), it could be a fun challenge to make up precisely the structure it requires.
