I was going to suggest learning architectural lettering as well but I can't find any good way to learn it anymore. I think I was the last class coming through to learn hand drafting.

BTW - my lettering is pretty good but my handwriting remains abysmal. The two are not necessarily the same skill.

I learned with a lettering guide. Still have it.

Eventually you freehand it. And you're right - the lack of assistance is crucial.

Hand drafting was like the calligraphy of engineering. I, too, mourn its passing.
